* Minority populations are becoming a larger proportion of the United States each year. That is why recruiting African-Americans to become blood donors is extremely important.

* African-Americans currently make up only 8.1 percent of the blood donation population.

* Since blood type is an inherited trait, the best match for a blood transfusion of a critically ill person is most likely to be found in a donor of the same racial, ethnic and genetic background.

* Becoming a regular donor is extremely important.

* African-Americans have a high incidence of sickle cell anemia, cancer, heart disease and the need for organ transplants. These types of illnesses often require blood transfusions.

* Becoming a regular donor is a safe and easy way to share your good health.

* Your one donation can save three to four lives!!!
